What is Kybella?
I am so glad you asked! Kybella is an FDA-approved prescription medication that must be administered by a Kybella-trained healthcare specialist. This medication is used in adults to reduce the amount of fat under their chin and improve their appearance and profile.
So how does it work? It is pretty neat, actually! The active ingredient, deoxycholic acid (say that three time fast…), is a naturally occurring molecule in the body. This molecule aids the body in breaking down and absorbing dietary fat. When Kybella is injected into the fat under the chin, it works to destroy the fat cells. The best part? Once the fat cells are gone, they are gone! When you reach your desired aesthetic goal, no more treatment is necessary.
The number of treatments it takes is different for everyone because everyone has a different chin profile and a different aesthetic goal. We will help you determine the number of sessions you need during your consultation.
That all sounds great, but does it hurt?
The pain is minimal. You can expect some burning at the injection site, but here at Boss Gal, we do everything to keep our clients comfortable! We use topical numbing and ice to ensure you have the best experience possible.
What kind of recovery is there?
Generally, there is some swelling right after your treatment, which is often the most noticeable during the first 2-3 days. This swelling should be completely resolved in one week’s time. Over the course of the month that follows your treatment, you may feel some small bumps under your chin in the treatment area. The bumps mean that Kybella is doing its job and dissolving the fat! Once the fat is dissolved, your body will naturally absorb the fat cells.
Is it right for you?
Kybella may be the right fit for you if you are unhappy with the amount of fat (submental fullness) under your chin. Many patients are concerned that the fullness under their chin is making them look heavier or older than they truly are. Kybella is a great option if you are looking to get rid of or reduce the appearance of a “double chin.” Kybella is also a great option for those who do not want to have surgery.
