Microblading: What to Expect

When you come to Boss Gal Beauty Bar you’re in safe hands. Boss Gal owner and microblading artist Kathy Keeney is a Registered Nurse with over 10 years of experience. Her incredible eye for detail, unrelenting desire for perfection, extensive experience with sanitation and prevention of cross contamination are some of the things that have made her one of the top microblading artists in all of Ohio.

Whether you’re dealing with sparse brows after years of over plucking (thanks, ‘90s!) or you’re just tired of powders, pencils and pomades, Microblading can transform your look.

What exactly is Microblading? Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing technique that creates natural-looking eyebrows. Unlike a regular tattoo, microblading uses a (single-use, disposable) handheld tool—not a machine—to embed pigment beneath the superficial layer of your skin in fine, even strokes that mimic hair.

The first session takes about two hours, during which we decide on the perfect shape, style and color of brows for you. Precise measurements will be made to ensure the shape is symmetrical and perfect for your face. Two types of numbing are used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Most people rate the pain a 3/10 on a pain scale (0 being no pain).

After the session, your brows will look amazing. You’re able to head back to work without anyone even knowing. There’s a two-week healing period where you will want to keep your brows clean and dry to prevent any infection. This includes avoiding saunas, pools, steam rooms, hot tubs, hot yoga and sweating. Following proper aftercare will ensure good pigment retention. After all, your brows are an investment!

Over the first 48 hours, the pigment oxidizes and the color darkens. Don’t worry, this is only temporary! Starting day five, the brows will lightly scab and flake off until about day 10. Most people say the peeling stage wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be. As your brows heal, the color will appear lighter and we’ll see you back at Boss Gal in six weeks for a perfection session. Your finished, microbladed brows will look 10-20% lighter and softer.

Since the pigment is superficial, it continues to soften and lighten over time as the skin sheds. Boss Gal offers Color Pop Sessions anywhere from three to 18 months post-procedure. Most of our clients come in for a touch-up once a year to maintain the perfect color and shape. However, it all depends on factors like your skin type and lifestyle. People with oily skin, for example, might require more frequent touch-ups than people normal to dry skin.
